Fire Doors & Escape Doors

 

Fire Doors and their many components are integral to the fire protection of a building and as such their design, specification and inspection requires a significant understanding of the effects of any variation in workmanship and limitations of fire door dimensions, materials, essential and non-essential door hardware.

 

Fire Doors provided in Ireland are generally manufactured in accordance with a Global Assessments. These assessments are carried out by a UKAS approved third party e.g. BWF Certifire, BM TRADA or others, and are typically based on numerous fire tests. The assessment contains a limiting specification for the fire door based on the relevant fire tests thus enabling a variety of sizes, dimensions and component combinations to be achieved.

 

The specification of Escape Doors, which may also be Fire Doors, requires comprehensive knowledge of dimensional requirements, adequacy of door furniture balanced with security needs and competing door furniture.
